Sydney PC User Group Newsletter 19 - 24 September 2016

Meetings for this week:

Tuesday 20th

Tuesday Forum 10 am - 12 noon

Roger Foulds will speak about The National Library of Scotland which has a very interesting App to compare different historical versions of the same area of maps in a side-by-side view with cursors tied to the same coordinates.

The historical depth applies mainly to maps of Scotland but also to other areas of the UK and a few other countries.

This link (http://maps.nls.uk/) is to the home page for the National Library of Scotland's Map Images sources.

This link is to the side-by-side option (http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm).

Apart from exploring the general features of the App, Roger will show the Screenpresso video of the Irish Coast showing erosion over 20 years.

Next week's meetings:

  • Tuesday: MAIN Meeting

Discussion Topic:

Some in the Club have been thinking about a name-change from "PC User Group" to something more up-to-date and/or inclusive. We would appreciate feedback from members with their thoughts on the subject.

A pronounceable acronym (unlike SPCUG) would be a bonus if one could be found. The Sydney Linux User Group has a good one!

Initial suggestions might include some of the following words:
Sydney | PC | User | Group | Technology | Media | Social | Wearable | Hand-held | Personal | Mobile | Computer | Computing | Future | Virtual | Machine | Robotic | Geek | Seniors | Mens' | Women's | Club | NSW | Reality

Please come up with your own set of words. Any suggestions are very welcome.
